Project description
The City Hall of Reșița municipality with the current administrative group has started a series of public projects in order to revive the city, currently perceived as dusty, outdated and unattractive. A platform called "Invest in Resita" was created in order to attract investors, under the motto "Open Resita". The strategy aims to increase the attractiveness of the city especially for its inhabitants, for possible investors but also for tourists. Many projects take into consideration the alternative mobility in the municipality of Resita – the layout of the Bârzava banks and the integration of a bicycle route that crosses the entire city, the reintroduction of the tram route, the modernization of the civic center and so on. The implementation of the present project came as support and completion of the urban strategy proposed by the Reșița City Hall, especially considering the location of these streets - the neighborhood connections between the two major traffic routes of the city. The Lunca Pomostului district continues along the Bârzava River, from the Eftimie Murgu University and it ends close to the Steam Locomotives Museum. It was build after the Second World War, next to the Moroasa district, which pedestrians can reach by climbing the steps of the Traian Lalescu College – vertical connection between the two districts. The Six Streets project covers cumulatively an area of 28,000 sqm with lenghts ranging from 200 m to 230 m, having various widths, the narrowest being Bielefeld Street which is only 10 m wide, others having widths that reach 25 m. In general, all six streets have suffered from improper design– narrow sidewalks, unmaintained green spaces, deteriorated asphalt and curbs, inadequate lighting system and waste collection system. None were equipped with a bike path or any method of accessibility of the public space, and all presented the problem of undefined parking spaces, cars parked on the sidewalk, chaotically.The project aimed to improve the general aspect of Lunca Pomostului district, to introduce and integrate a biclycle path to the alternative transport network of Reșița Municipality, to achieve specific areas, neighborhood squares, to equip the streets with utilities and infrastructure to accommodate various events and activities as needed and for the proper functioning of the new arrangement, supporting alternative mobility and increasing the quality of life in Lunca Pomostului district.

VitaminA is an office for integrated urban development and user-friendly architecture. Paul Buchert is the co-founder of the Vitamin Architects office in Timisoara, where he coordinated the activity of the design team and worked on diferent projects. Rudolf Gräf co-founded the Vitamin Architects office. He is an architect, having been involved for the past 10 years in international urban planning projects in eastern and central Europe. Olimpia Onci is an architect and urban planner. Her interests are urban retrofitting and re-establishments of public spaces. She worked on architectural and urban planning projects in Austria and Romania. Alexandra Sabo graduated with degree in architecture, as well as a Master's degree in Heritage Restoration and Regeneration. She has experience in architectural design, and rehabilitation of historical buildings in Spain and Romania. Alexandru Todirică has experience in architectural design with an interest in photography and cultural management.
